Are your snacks feeling a little… basic? This week, we’re talking about food that’s truly worth the wait, with one that’s just delightfully weird.
In Colin’s garden, he grew the highly dramatic cucamelon. These trendy little cuties look exactly like tiny watermelons, but trust us—they carry a totally surprising kick.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Common Names | Cucamelon, Mexican Sour Gherkin, Mouse Melon, Sandiita (“little watermelon”) |
| Look | Grape-sized fruit with green skin and dark green mottling, appearing exactly like a tiny watermelon. Grows on a climbing vine. |
| Taste | Refreshing cucumber flavor with a sharp, tart twist of lemon or lime. Very firm and crunchy texture. |
| Harvest Size | Pick when they are about the size of a large grape or olive (around 1 inch long). |
| Harvest Tip | They must be firm to the touch. If they get squishy, they’ll be seedy and bitter. Snip them from the vine regularly to encourage more growth. |
Then, we unveil the beautiful Scarlet Sunrise. Developed by the geniuses at Rutgers University in New Jersey, this bi-color grape tomato is the result of 13 years of meticulous breeding! We’re talking intensely sweet, crack-resistant, and visually stunning (a perfect golden hue with a sunset blush!).
