WANGARI MAATHAI (1940-2011)
First African women to win a Nobel Peace Prize for her initiative, Green Belt Movement in Kenya which gave women access to education and community land and resources.
KATE SESSIONS (1857-1940)
Mother of Balboa Park, San Diego. She was a botanist, horticulturist and landscaper. Kate brought more than 140 plant species back to San Diego from her travels for cultivation, including the jacaranda tree.
VANDANA SHIVA (1952-)
Promotes environmentalism in commercial farming and gardens while also shedding light on women in farming.

BRANDI’S FEATURE: Lois Hole
Lois Hole was Alberta’s 15th Lieutenant Governor and lived in St. Albert near Edmonton, AB. Her and her husband incorporated their mixed farm into Hole’s Greenhouses & Gardens Ltd which became one of the most successful retail greenhouses in western Canada. Lois wrote 6 bestselling gardening books and spoke to around 600 groups all across North America spreading her love of plants and gardening.
