Deck the Halls (and Leaves!): Holiday Houseplant Decorating
The holiday season is officially upon us, and while we all love sparkling trees and twinkling lights, who says the festive cheer has to stop at your traditional fir? We’re big fans of bringing nature indoors, and what better way to celebrate than by giving our beloved houseplants a little holiday glow-up? Forget just one tree – your entire plant family can join the festivities!
We’ve been chatting with our colleagues about their own creative ways to deck their leafy halls, and we’ve gathered some inspiration for you to try at home. It’s all about having fun with your houseplants!
Lucas and Eduardo’s Festive Pothos and Palm
Lucas and Eduardo, are all about adding a bit of sparkle and whimsy to their everyday houseplants. They use LED lights to illuminate their sprawling Pothos that typically drapes beautifully across a ledge. The effect is truly magical, turning an ordinary green plant into a twinkling spectacle that casts a cozy glow in the evening. It’s super simple, doesn’t harm the plant, and adds instant holiday ambiance. They also utilize light weight ornaments to decorate their indoor palm like a mini tropical Christmas tree.
Jennifer’s Living Christmas Tree
Jennifer takes a slightly different, yet equally enchanting approach, combining classic holiday charm with modern plant lighting. Her gorgeous Norfolk Pine adorns her living room year-round and then takes centre stage come the holiday season decked out with miniature ornaments and delicate fairy lights. It’s become a cherished family tradition, and her Norfolk Pine genuinely steals the show as a sustainable, living holiday centerpiece.
For her Monstera, Jennifer creates a subtle effect. Instead of decorating the leaves directly, she places a small string of LED lights near the base of the plant, illuminating it from below, making a dramatic silhouette . It’s an unexpected and sophisticated way to highlight the plant’s natural beauty while adding a touch of holiday magic.
So, whether you’re stringing lights, hanging ornaments, or creating a subtle glow, let your houseplants be part of your holiday decorating this year. They’ll thank you with extra cheer, and your home will feel even more festive and alive!
